Disaster Preparation Takes Some Forethought

Disaster Preparation Takes Some Forethought

You might want to consider having a disaster kit, survival supplies, extra clothing on hand for the natural disasters and now possible terrorism acts that may potentially occur. Some extra disaster preparation goes a long way when you need basic items in a hurry. Survival and disaster kits are one important method to achieving disaster preparedness.

Here are some suggestions from FEMA and VDEM: (Article Release Date: December 18, 2003, Release Number: 1502-07, Excerpt from Article: "Give The Gift Of Disaster Preparedness")

  • NOAA weather radios and extra batteries
  • New smoke detectors and batteries
  • Appropriate fire extinguishers (kitchen, garage, car)
  • A home disaster kit that could include items such as a flashlight and batteries, a battery-powered radio, a first aid kit, bottled water, and canned goods with a manual can opener. Place the items in a plastic tub or backpack
  • Foldable ladders for second-story escape in case of fire
  • Car emergency kits that could include flares, a shovel, an ice scraper, flashlight and fluorescent distress flags
  • Enrollment in a CPR or first aid class
  • Pet disaster kit that could include extra food, a leash, food dish, pet toys that would fit in a bag or backpack.
  • A National Flood Insurance Policy

Also, you may need Earthquake Insurance or other specialized insurance depending on where you live in the nation. To help you with your disaster preparation, All Safety Products, Inc. provides survival kits, home and business disaster kits, car emergency kits, emergency food supplies, and other items you may need in a hurry. Preparing for a disaster is just as important as knowing what to do during a disaster.
